“The Daily Show” this week sarcastically embraced the Pentagon’s new press restrictions in a social media post.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth attempted to force the media to sign a pledge that they will not report stories using unapproved sources, or risk losing their credentials.
News refused to sign, as did the major networks and most mainstream conservative media, while critics accused the War Department, i.e. the Department of Defense, of restricting press freedom.
“The Daily Show” joined companies like OAN in giving in to Hegseth’s demands, but in the name of mockery.
“After serious consideration, The Daily Show has agreed to the Pentagon’s new demands regarding press access,” the show wrote Wednesday on X, formerly Twitter.
“We were going to say no, but everyone else turned him down so hard that it honestly made us feel a little bad for Pete Hegseth,” the statement continued. “Poor guy couldn’t even get News to sign up, and he WORKED for them a few months ago. Even Newsmax refused! Brutal. So we’re teaming up, so One America isn’t the only sign on this. It’s all too humiliating.”
The Pentagon press corps has been greatly reduced after the edict.
“The Daily Show” isn’t really a member of the regular Pentagon press pool, but enjoy your compromised access anyway, you hilariously cowardly rogues!
