Holly Hallstrom, who was one of the long-running game show’s “Barker Beauties” for 18 years, was fired in 1995. The show told her she was fired because of her weight, but according to a teaser clip from the new E! Documentary series “Rotten and dirty scandals” Hallstrom says she was fired for much more nefarious reasons.
“I hate that man,” Hallstrom can be heard saying while holding back tears at the end of the clip.

MY! The documentary series delves into Barker’s affair with another of the show’s models, Dian Parkinson. After Barker broke up with Parkinson, she sued him for sexual harassment. Kathleen Bradley, another former model on the show, recalled in the documentary that Parkinson told her that Barker had forced him to “do things to her in the dressing room, where I didn’t want to do them,” according to a People docuseries recap.
Hallstrom said on “Dirty Rotten Scandals” that she believes the real reason she was kicked off the show was because she refused to defend Barker in the Parkinson’s case.

“I wanted nothing to do with it,” Hallstrom said in the doc, which proposes that the game show’s early years were rife with sexual harassment and racism. “I was the only one who was asked to make a statement and didn’t. I didn’t want to commit a felony perjury charge, which is exactly what it would have been if I had given a statement.”
“I refused to testify in court, to commit felony perjury for him.” Hallstrom was later added to People. “That was the last straw, but it’s illegal to fire an employee for not testifying on your behalf in a court of law, so they couldn’t fire me for that.”
So, according to Hallstrom, the program was developed with the excuse of weight.
“And then the lawyers called me and began negotiating the terms of my retirement,” Hallstrom says in the document. “And I said, ‘I don’t want to retire. I don’t have to retire.’ But there was really no choice. Barker wanted me to leave. They were firing me and I wouldn’t come back… after almost 20 years on the show.”

Hallstrom’s life became as stressful as the show’s Plinko game after she decided to share her account of her firing with the tabloid show “Hard Copy,” prompting Barker to sue her for defamation.
The lawsuit lasted for years, and Hallstrom compared the battle against Barker as “overwhelming” and “like fighting a giant machine.”
Five years later, in 2000, Barker finally dropped his case, causing Hallstrom will sue him for malicious processing, according to People.
“They offered me a deal that would include a nondisclosure agreement, meaning I couldn’t speak publicly about the show. But I knew I wasn’t going to sign a nondisclosure agreement because he’s a liar. He’s a blatant self-promoting liar,” Hallstrom said. “I was fired. I had the truth on my side. There was no justice in saying, ‘You can win because you have more money.’ Over the years, I sold my house, my savings account, and my portfolio. I spent it all trying to stay in this lawsuit. I just didn’t want him to win.”
Hallstrom said that thanks to her lawsuit, she ultimately “lost everything” and “was left totally broke and living in my car.”
“I couldn’t afford to stay in this lawsuit and I was going to have to settle, and I wasn’t going to do that,” he said.
hallstrom he told the people that she waited until Barker’s death to speak again because if she had, he would have sued her “again in a heartbeat.”
Crier died in 2023 at the age of 99.
