54 shipwrecked migrants rescued from the oil platform in the Mediterranean, where a woman gave birth

More than 50 migrants went to the Italian island of Lampedusa on Sunday after a charity rescued them from an abandoned oil platform in the Mediterranean, where a woman gave birth, according to a rescue group.

The astral boat, operated by the Open ARMS NGO, based in Spain, rescued the 54 people during the night, the group said in a statement.

The migrants had been trapped on the oil platform for three days after their rubber ship was shipwrecked after his departure as Tuesday, Arms said.

On Friday, one of the migrants gave birth to a child, while another woman had given days before. Two other young children were among the group, said Open Arms.

The group launched images on social networks, showing rescuers who help transfer to migrants from the oil platform to Astral.

That group, which included 10 children, had also left Libya, he said.

Open Arms said they provided lifeguards to migrants before being rescued by another charity ship, Louise Michel, sponsored by the street artist Banksy.

The Louise Michel, an old French Navy boat, transported Lampedusa migrants to a safe port in Sicily, said open arms.
