Malcolm-Jamal Warner, the actor who played Theodore Huxtable in “The Cosby Show,” died at age 54, told ABC News on Monday to ABC News.

The death of the star was first informed by TMZ and confirmed by people, which say that Warner died accidentally drowning. The Department of Judicial Investigation of Costa Rica found the body of the actor on Sunday afternoon near Limón, Costa Rica, after it was caught by a high current in the ocean.

A Warner representative rejected News’s request for verification, saying that the team for now is not providing any statement or confirmation details.

Warner was better known for playing Bill Cosby’s son in the situation comedy “The Cosby Show” between 1984 and 1992, throwing him into stardom and obtaining an assent from Emmy.

“What did so innovative was his universality,” the actor told People in 2023. “NBC initially saw it as a show about a black middle class black family. Mr. Cosby diligently impressed them that the program was about a high middle -class family that was black.”

The relationship of many fans with the program began to sour after dozens of women presented themselves to accuse Cosby, now 88 years old, to drug them and sexually assault them in a period of decades. The comedian was sentenced to prison in 2018 for those positions before his conviction was revoked three years later. Since then, at least nine more women have sued him for alleged inappropriate sexual behavior.

Warner has spoken publicly about how the accusations have changed the reputation of the program, and in 2016 he pointed out what he believed was the double standard of the media when it came to other similar accused filmmakers such as Woody Allen, Roman Polanski and Stephen Collins.

“The crimes they have committed is very clear, but there is no one to ask Woody’s movies to be taken out of the air,” Warner said about Bet’s “The Real”. “I’m not in a position to defend [Cosby]because I can’t. I will not throw it under the bus. “

Despite Cosby’s accusations, Warner said he and many others in the case were still “proud of the legacy” that they built in the program.

The actor starred in other programs and films such as the “Malcolm & Eddie” situation comedy and the “Reed between the lines” program. Recently it also appeared in “Major Crime”, “Suits” and “The Resident”.

Last year, he launched a podcast entitled “Not All Hood” in an effort to discuss the spectrum of experiences and identities that black Americans have, as well as break down barriers to black mental health.
