Democrats in Capitol Hill say it’s time for Jamieson Ger to choose the work he loves most.

Greer is the American commercial representative of President Donald Trump, responsible for directing the country through what is emerging as a global commercial war fed with tariffs. But Greer also serves as an interim boss of two other agencies, the Special Advisor Office and the Government Ethics Office.

Those are important works, at least under a normal administration. The OSC has the task of protecting government complainants, and the OGE is responsible for enforcing ethics rules in the Executive Power. It would be a lot to make juggling in addition to its commercial concert, especially as Trump tariffs melt financial markets, the rapid retaliation of other countries and increases the probability of a recession.

Four Democrats from the House of Representatives, led by representative Ayanna Pressley (Massachusetts), sent a letter to Greer on Wednesday telling him that it was time to leave their hustle and concentrate on being the main commercial official of the country, a “singular” role at a time when “bets could not be higher.” They said that using three different hats within the administration not only creates conflicts of interest, but that it is impossible to do any job.

“Assuming at least two other works is wrong and a bad service for the public.”

“Since President Trump has launched a global commercial war, it is essential that he remain focused on fulfilling the duties for which the United States Senate confirmed it,” Pressley wrote, together with representatives Don Beyer (Virginia), Linda Sánchez (California) and Gerry Connolly (Va.). “Assuming at least two other works is wrong and a bad service for the public who await a competent and effective OSC and Oge.”

The Senate confirmed to Greer, a commercial lawyer who served in the first Trump administration, as commercial representative of the United States on February 26. Meanwhile, the Government Ethics Office currently liza Greer as interim director on his website.

A spokesman for the special advisor office confirmed that Greer is leading the agency, but did not address how long he has been dedicating to the office. They refer questions to the Office of the United States Commercial Representative.

Greer was definitely not working at the Office of the Special Advisor or in the Government Ethics Office on Tuesday morning: he was busy testifying about the commercial war against a Senate panel.

It is unlikely that this administration wants a special advice office that works, since it is one of the handful that protects the labor rights of federal employees, partly when seeking the restoration of those who were dismissed or illegally disciplined. Trump created the opening at OSC when he eliminated the previous special lawyer, Hampton Delinger, in early February.

Dellinger sued for the land that his shot was illegal and won the order of a judge that allowed him to maintain his position. But then he left his case after an appeals court allowed his shot to continue.

Pressley and his colleagues wondered how the OSC could fulfill its mission if its interim director also directed a commercial policy at such a critical moment.

“With the current avalanche of attacks, layoffs and layoffs of government employees, OSC’s work has increased considerably in importance and quantity,” they wrote.

An aggressive government ethics would not be a high in the list of priorities of this administration. The OGE is responsible for preventing conflicts of interest under a president who recently announced the Tesla cars for multimillionaire sponsor Elon Musk in the White House land.

In early February, Trump fired the director of the Independent Office who had been appointed by former President Joe Biden for a period of five years.

“Since the Presidency entered, the Trump administration has been the subject of dozens of ethics complaints that require serious attention,” the Democrats said in their letter.

They put a series of questions to Greer, including how many hours he is working on the different offices, whether they have other jobs that do not know, and if he has been challenged from any complainant or ethics cases that involve the office of the United States commercial representative. He was urged to give up his non -commercial positions immediately.

“Anything except does not comply with the ethical and professionals necessary to preserve the independence and effectiveness of both offices,” they wrote.
