New York governor Kathy Hochul, who wore a handkerchief to the funeral of a Muslim police officer, became Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas), who seemed to make fun of her on a tweet.

“I brought a head scarf to honor a fallen Muslim police officer at his funeral,” Hochul wrote on Saturday, previously Twitter. “Respecting the faith of a afflicted family are ‘Wut’ leaders and anyone with basic decency would do it.”

Hochul’s publication was in response to Cruz, who on Friday published a photo of Hochul at the funeral with the title, “Um, WUT?”

The users of the social networks pointed out the hypocrisy of Cruz, and unearthed a photo of Cruz in 2016 with a Yarmulke while campaigning at the Jewish center of Brighton Beach in New York.

After Hochul’s response, Cruz replied, writing: “I agree. You must use a Hijab every day because you are very decent. It does not matter the rights of women in New York … Not your concern.”

It is not clear to what Cruz referred to for his “women’s rights in New York” comment, and his office did not immediately respond to a request for comments.

Hochul had attended the funeral of the New York Didarul Islam police officer, who was killed in the massive shooting last week in Manhattan. The armed man shot and killed four people in the skyscraper that houses the NFL headquarters before taking his life.

Hochul’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comments.
