Microsoft Authenticator is eliminating its passwords

If you use Microsoft Authenticator to store your login information, it is time to take action. This month, Microsoft began eliminating the application methods stored from the application, and from August 1, 2025, stored passwords are no longer accessible within the authenticator.

While the application will still admit the authentication of two factors (2FA) and Passkeys, its days as a password administrator have officially finished.

But do not scare, your data can be saved and your options are better than ever. Let’s see what you are changing, where your data were and how to keep your credentials safe.

Why Microsoft is making this change

Microsoft is moving towards a future without password. As part of that change, it no longer wants the Authenticator application to handle passwords or payment methods.

In early July, Microsoft began moving passwords and addresses stored to its Microsoft account and the Edge browser. These data are safe, for now. However, any payment information stored in the application was permanently eliminated on August 1.

This decision simplifies the application approach: only 2fA codes and the Verses pass. Everything else is taking other Microsoft tools.

Where were your passwords?

If you previously saved passwords in Microsoft Authenticator, they have now migrated to their Microsoft account and the Microsoft Edge browser. You can still access and focus them on your mobile device, but the configuration varies according to your phone. Here we show you how to enable Edge for Password Autocomfill:

For iPhone (iOS 18.5 and newer):

• Open Settings
• Tap General
• Select Autocates and passwords
• Alternate Self -collate
• In allowing the filling, select Edge (If it appears as an option)

Note: Not all users will see Edge as an automatic approach provider. This depends on whether EDGE’s version installed on your iPhone supports the password self -registration registration. If Edge is not available, you can continue using Apple’s new password application, or change to a dedicated password administrator that IOS Autocill completely admits.

What is artificial intelligence (AI)?

For Android:

SEthings can vary according to the manufacturer of your Android phone

• Gonna Settings
• Tap System (or “general management” on Samsung devices).
• Tap Languages and entrance (Sometimes below “Advanced” either “Entry assistance“).
• Tap Automatic approach service.
• Select Edge Of the list of suppliers.

If Edge is installed and registered correctly as an automatic approach service, it will appear as an option and admit Autofill for saving credentials. If Edge does not appear, it means that its version is not compatible with the automatic approach or its device manufacturer has personalized configurations in a non -standard way. In such cases, use a dedicated password administrator, which is well backed on Android.

How to transfer your passwords to another application

Do you prefer anything more than Edge? Do not worry if the deadline of August 1 was lost. It is possible that they can still export their credentials if they migrated to their Microsoft account or edge.

Follow these steps:

• Open Microsoft authenticator
• Gonna Settings
• Tap Export passwords
• Save the file At your cloud device or storage
• Discharge New password administrator
• Tap Matter On the application board
• Increase The saved file

That’s all. Your passwords are now stored safely in your new application.

Important: Microsoft recommends that if you change to another automatic approach provider, explicitly deactivates the authenticator as the automatic approach provider in the configuration of your device. On the contrary, if you use Passkeys, make sure that the authenticator remains enabled as your Passkey provider to avoid accidentally disabled those credentials.

Should Microsoft’s authenticator eliminate?

No, I don’t eliminate it yet. The Microsoft authenticator still plays a crucial role in its digital safety. It generates 2FA codes and stores raisins, which are important to protect your accounts.

However, if you are changing to another application, Microsoft Authenticator of each account and configure a new method must be manually disabled. Unfortunately, Microsoft does not allow exporting 2FA tokens to another application, so you will have to go to one account at a time.
