What was intended as a fundraising mission has become a nightmare to American adolescent influencer Ethan Guowhich has been caught in a remote place in Chilean territory in Antarctica since June.

Last year, Guo began a trip to become the youngest person to fly only to the seven continents. The trip also aimed to raise $ 1 million for children’s cancer investigation through the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Guo flew his Cessna 182q to North America, South America, Asia, Africa, Australia and Europe before addressing Antarctica.

Prosecutors said he was authorized to fly to the Chilean city of Punta Arenas, which is often used as a basis for excursions to Antarctica. The authorities said Guo provided “data from the false flight plan” and traveled to King George Island. Guo’s flight plan only included his landing in Punta Arenas, authorities said. Chile claims the property of the island, which is about 75 miles from the Antarctica coast.

Guo was arrested at King George Island airport. On June 29, he was accused of giving false information to soil control and landing without authorization, both violations of the Chilean Aeronautical Code. The code requires a short -term imprisonment or a fine for anyone lands in the territory of the country without authorization.

Chilean prosecutor Cristián Cristoso also said that Guo violated the “national and international” rules that govern access to Antarctica and the routes used to travel there. The unauthorized flight represented safety risks for other air travelers, Cristoso said.

Since he was accused, Guo has stayed in a military base on the island. He was not forced to stay there, just to remain in Chilean territory, but due to the severe winter in that part of the southern hemisphere, there have been no available flights that he can take.

Guo could not fly his Cessna either. Crystoso told journalists on Monday that Guo’s plane “does not have the capabilities of making a flight,” but did not provide more details.

On Monday, a judge withdrew the charges against Guo as part of an agreement with his Chilean lawyers and prosecutors. The agreement requires Guo to make a donation of $ 30,000 to a cancer children’s foundation within 30 days to avoid an essay. It must also leave Chile as soon as the conditions allow it, and is prohibited from restarting the Chilean territory for three years.

The prosecutor said that Guo must also pay all costs for his “safety and personal maintenance of aircraft” during his stay in military facilities. You also need to cover all expenses for your return.

Guo told News in a text that was “relieved by the result.”

Guo said he is waiting for the approval of his departure flight from Antarctica. He is talking to his lawyer to see if there is any way to continue flying to his Cessna, and said he hopes he can continue with his “original mission.”
