When “Piece By Piece” was launched, the lyrics were addressed to the father separated from Clarkson and implied that Blackstock was a better husband and father than his father.
In the 2015 version, Clarkson sang Blackstock:
“He will never get away/ He will never break his heart/ He will take care of things, he will love her/ piece by piece, restored my faith/ that a man can be kind and the father should be great.”
Three years after his separation from Blackstock, She adjusted the lyrics.
“I simply get away/ when they ask for money/ I take care of myself because I love myself/ piece by piece, I restored my faith/ that a heart can still beat even when it breaks,” he sang.
During his performance trapped in the video last month, Clarkson told the audience that his letters of 2023 “sounded a little angry.”
“So, I just wanted to explain how you feel now,” said Clarksson. “I am 43 years old. I have done some therapy, and I changed the lyrics now and I feel that it is perfect now. I promise. I swear for God, I will not change it again.”
While Clarkson continued to explain why he felt that his new lyrics are an “adult version” more of his song, he broke again.
“I’m really trying to unite it,” Clarksson said when his voice broke. Then he turned to clean his tears again.
After a little support from his audience, Clarkson finally said:
“Fuck him, let’s just sing. This is ‘piece of piece’.”
In Clarkson’s new version, he shared a more comprehensive but firm message to Blackstock as he reaffirmed his “faith” itself.
“I am learning every day how to love/ let the shame that you taught me/ piece by piece. I restored my faith/ that a heart can still overcome even if it breaks.”
Although Clarkson has made clear his reasons to divide with Blackstock, he had tried to remain friendly with him for the good of his children.
