The uprising: Chess champions
A 10 -year -old chess prodigy has made history as the youngest player to defeat a great teacher, which is the highest distinction that any chess player can win.
Bodhana Sivanandan obtained the impressive record on Sunday during the final round of the British chess championship this year in Liverpool, England, according to the International Chess Federation, which governs the sport of chess. Sivandan, from the London area, beat the great 60 -year -old teacher Peter Wells to take home.
“British Sensation Bodhana Sivanandan has made history by becoming the youngest chess player to overcome a great teacher!” The International Chess Federation wrote on Monday in a publication on social networks. “Sivanandan’s victory at 10 years, five months and three days exceeds the 2019 record held by the American Carissa Yip (10 years, 11 months and 20 days).”

Sivanandan has not yet received a title from Grand Master, BBC News, a News themezonemark reported, since the governing body of the sport requires that each chess player reach a series of milestones first.
His new class, “Woman International Master”, is the second highest title for players after “Grandmaster”, according to The Outlet. Sivanandan told BBC News that he started playing during the Covid-19 pandemic, when he was only 5 years old.
Malcolm Pein, an international chess teacher whose charity organization helps provide students access to the game, said Sivanandan is a pioneer in an area that had traditionally been dominated by men.

“It is so composite, it is so modest and yet it is absolutely brilliant in chess,” Pein told BBC News. “It could easily become the female world champion, or perhaps the world general champion. And I certainly think she is on her way to become a great teacher.”
In December, an 8 -year -old chess prodigy became the youngest player to overcome a great teacher. The boy, Attachedhe won his match against Jacek Stapa, 37, in a chess tournament in Switzerland. Kaushik, who is from India but lives in Singapore, had replaced another virtuous young man who only won the title himself. That child, Leonid Ivanovic from Serbia, was a little older than Kaushik at 8 years and 11 months.
