2 Carnival cruise passengers die in separate drowning incidents in Bahamas Resort

Two American tourists drowned last week in separate incidents in the new Carnival Cruise Line Bahamas complex, authorities said. Both were passengers on carnival cruises that had sailed to the Caribbean, the company confirmed News themezone on Sunday.

They died on Friday while they swam in Celebration Key, a private complex on Grand Bahama Island that only carnival cruise passengers can use, according to the Royal Bahamas Police Force and Carnival. The police said in a press release that the service officers responded to the first drowning before noon, the local time, and the second shortly after 2:30 pm, according to the statement. The circumstances around each death are under investigation.

In the first incident, the officers were alerted to a 79 -year -old man who did not respond on board a commercial ship at the resort. Police said an initial report suggested that man lost knowledge while diving on a beach, and a lifeguard took him out of the water to administer RCP. According to the police, the man, who was an American citizen, was declared dead by a doctor, according to the police.

Later, the officers found a 74 -year -old woman who did not respond on board a separate commercial ship. The initial police report in that incident suggested that the woman also reported that she was American, lost knowledge while swimming in a pool. Similar to the first case, the police said that a lifeguard took her out of the water and tried RCP before she was also declared dead.

Neither the police nor the carnival identified the passengers by name. A Carnival spokesman told News themezone in a statement that the passengers had sailed to Grand Bahama on the Mardi Gras and Carnival Eloation cruises of the company, and both traveled with their families.

“Our lifeguards and the medical team responded to two separate emergency incidents in Celebration Key on Friday, one in La Laguna and another on the beach. Unfortunately, both guests have died,” said the spokesman. “Our thoughts and sentences are with the guests and their families and our attention team is providing assistance.”

The Bahamas police said that autopsies will be carried out to help determine the exact cause of death of each tourist, since investigations on incidents are still ongoing.
