Texas House approves the redesign maps requested by Trump before the 2026 elections

Austin, Texas (AP) – The Texas Chamber approved on Wednesday.

The approval occurred at the request of President Donald Trump, who pressed for the extraordinary review of half of the Maps of the Congress to give his party a better opportunity to keep the United States representatives chamber in the mid -period elections of 2026. The maps, which would give the Republicans five more ganiable seats, must be approved by the State Senate controlled by the Republican and signed party by Republican governor Greg Abbott before they become official.

But the vote of the Texas House of Representatives had presented the best opportunity for the Democrats to derail the redrawn.

Democratic legislators delayed the vote for two weeks fleeing from Texas earlier this month in protest, and they were assigned police monitoring 24 hours on their return to make sure they attended Wednesday’s session.

It is likely that the approval of Texas maps in a vote of the 88-52 party line will promote the state legislature controlled by California Democrat this week to approve a new map of the House of Representatives that creates five new democratic inclination districts. But the California map would require the approval of voters in November.

The Democrats have also promised to challenge the new Texas map in the Court and complained that the Republicans made the movement of political power before passing the legislation that responded to the mortal floods that swept the state last month.

Texas maps made openly to help the Republican party

State representative John H. Bucy blamed the president. “This is Donald Trump’s map,” Bucy said. “Five more republican seats in Congress clearly and deliberately because Trump himself knows that voters are rejecting their agenda.”

The republican power game has already triggered a national eye battle by eye, since democratic state legislators prepared to meet in California on Thursday to review the map of that state to create five new democratic seats.

“This is a new Democratic Party, this is a new day, this is a new energy throughout this country,” California Democratic governor Gavin Newsom said Wednesday in a call with journalists on Wednesday. “And we are going to fight fire with fire.”

A new map of California would need to be approved by voters in a special election in November because that state normally operates with a non -partisan commission that draws the map to avoid the type of political fight that is being developed. Newsom himself supported the 2008 ballot measure to create that process, as well as former President Barack Obama. But in a sign of the determination of the Democrats, Obama on Tuesday night supported Newsom’s offer to draw the California map again, saying that it was a necessary step to avoid the movement of the Texas Republican Party.

“I think that approach is an intelligent and measured approach,” Obama said during a fundraising for the main redistribution arm of the Democratic Party districts.

The starting party usually loses seats in the mid -period elections, and the Republican party currently controls the House of Representatives for only three votes. Trump goes beyond Texas in his impulse to redo the map. He has pushed republican leaders in conservative states such as Indiana and Missouri to try to create new Republican seats. Ohio’s Republicans were already checking their map before Texas moved. The Democrats, meanwhile, are reflecting the reopening of Maryland’s maps and New York as well.

However, more states administered by Democrat have commission systems such as the redistribution limits of California districts than Republicans, leaving the Republican party with a freer hand to re -draw maps. New York, for example, cannot draw new maps until 2028, and even then, only with the approval of voters.

Texas Democrats denounce the new maps

In Texas, there were little that the Democrats surpassed in number could do more than smoke and threaten a demand to block the map. Because the Supreme Court has blessed purely partisan Gerrymandering, the only way in which opponents can stop the new Texas map would be arguing that it violates the voting law requirement to keep minority communities together so that they can select representatives of their choice.

The Republicans responded criticism

Republicans spent much less time talking on Wednesday, happy to let their numbers talk in the unequal vote. As the day progressed, a handful hit democratic complaints.

“You call my racist voters, call my racist party and, however, we are expected to follow the rules,” said state representative Katrina Pierson, former Trump spokesman. “There are black and Hispanic and Asian republicans in this camera that were chosen as you.”

The frustration of the Republicans of the House of Representatives on the flight of the Democrats and the ability to delay the vote was palpable. The Republican party used a parliamentary maneuver to take a second and last vote on the map so that it did not have to meet again for a vote more after the approval of the Senate.
