A video posted by the state station CCTV showed that the center of the section of the bridge suddenly yielded and immersed itself in the waters of the yellow river underneath.
The cause was a steel cable failure, said the state agency Xinhua.
The People’s Daily newspaper said that 15 workers and a project manager were in place at that time. The newspaper initially reported the death toll like seven by the newspaper, but the subsequent reports put it in six and then the state television doubled the toll.
According to the CCTV report, at least 91 rescue vehicles were deployed, including 27 ships, a helicopter and five robots, along with 806 staff, to help with the search and rescue effort. The state network said that six hospitals in the region were prepared to ingest victims to receive treatment.
The bridge on the Sichuan-Qinghai railway is the world’s largest double-track steel armor arc bridge, according to People’s Daily, according to People’s Daily.

It is also the first Chinese railway steel arc bridge that covers the Yellow River, the second longest in the country, according to the report.
The images published in the state media show the partially built bridge, their missing average section and two towers of giant scaffolding and several cranes next to it.
Hundreds of rescue workers were mobilized for the search and rescue operation, Xinhua said.
Industrial accidents are quite common in China due to vague regulations and lax safety standards.
In December last year, 13 people disappeared after a cave in a construction site for an important railway in the city of Shenzhen in southern China. There were no survivors reports.
