School security tools are spying on children even at home

The school returns to the session, but here is something that nobody told him in the orientation: his children can have more eyes on them than only those of their teachers. Even if you don’t have children at school, you really need to know about this.

A new UC San Diego study discovered what is really happening with these security tools for students who buy schools. Do you know, those who are supposed to stop bullying, mark mental health struggles and avoid school shootings? Well, they have become 24/7 surveillance machines.

Get this: 86% of the companies that provide these services control children at day and night, not only during school hours and not only in school devices. That is every search for Google, every message, sometimes even at home on personal phones and laptops.

Almost a third of these companies give children “risk scores” depending on what they write or search. The kicker? 71% trust the behavior of AI to the flag. Yes, an algorithm decides if your child is “risky.”

Imagine that your child writes an email that never sends and that draft is obtained in the database of a monitoring company. That is exactly what happened to this teenager who was suspended. Creepy does not even start covering it.

📱 Yes, they are also looking at home

About 36% of companies monitor students owned by students. All that is needed is an application, complement or software required by the school.

YouTube binge, private DMS and night social media publications, could trigger a red flag on some board.

📌 Questions each father must do the school

I think these tools can do a lot of good. God knows that we do not want more school shootings or children who slide through the cracks.

But you and your children need to understand exactly how they work and what happens to the data. Copy these questions and send an email to the school administrator or configure a meeting in person.

  1. Does our school use Goguardian, Bark, Gaggy, Securly, Lightspeed or any online monitoring service? What are they tracking exactly?
  2. Are you monitoring personal devices at home?
  3. What happens if my son is marked? How can I see my son’s board?
  4. How long are student data stored and parents can request the elimination?
  5. Do students are sold, shared or used for anything beyond monitoring?

Make sure your children know that anything you do on a device broadcast by school is a fair game. And depending on the configuration, your personal portable phone or computer could also trace. These systems can protect, but also raise great questions about privacy and supervision.

Is this happening with your child’s school? Leave me a note. I would love to talk to you.
