The Minister of Transportation of Türkiye has been slapped with a fine for speed after publishing a video of himself running along a road with the hashtag #turkeyaccelerates.

On Sunday night, Abdulkadir Uraloglu published a video of himself in X driving on a road near the capital, Ankara, listening to popular songs and clips of speeches by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

In several separate shots that inadvertently show the speedometer, it can be seen accumulating speeds between 118 and 140 miles per hour. The speed limit on that road in Türkiye is 85 mph.

Several hours later, Uraloglu published the video again, admitting that it had been fined for breaking the speed limit and saying that, by publishing the video, “I have essentially informed.”

“I took behind the wheel to check the Ankara-Nigde road and involuntarily overcome the speed limit for a short period. With the video I effectively denounced myself,” he wrote.

The penalty notice, a copy of which he published, showed that he had been driving at 225 kilometers per hour, or 140 mph, and slapped with a fine of 9,267 Tarkish Lira (around $ 225).

His video has gone viral, accumulating more than 5 million visits and 1,600 comments about X.

“To stick to Speed ​​Limited is mandatory for everyone,” said Uraloglu in his publication, and added a promise: “I would like to inform the public that I will be much more careful from now on.”
