Brussels – An airplane that transported the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen was beaten by GPS stuck on Bulgaria in an alleged Russian operation, a spokesman said on Monday. The plane landed safely at the Plovdiv airport and von der Leyen will continue its planned journey by the European Union nations that Russia and Belarus line, said commission spokeswoman Arianna Podestà.

“In fact, we can confirm that there were Jamming GPS,” Podestà said in a statement also shared separately with News themezone by a spokesman for the European Commission. “We have received information from the Bulgarian authority that suspect that this was due to the flagrant interference of Russia.”

The Financial Times newspaper, which was the first to report the incident citing EU officials, said the Jamming GPS forced the pilot to land the plane that transported von der Leyen using paper maps.

Von der Leyen, a fierce critic of Russian President Vladimir Putin and The Moscow War in Ukraineis on a four -day tour of the EU nations that border Russia and its nearby Belarus ally.

“This incident actually underlines the urgency of the mission that the president is carrying out in the First Line Member States,” said Podestà.

She said that von der Leyen has seen “first -hand the daily challenges of threats from Russia and their representatives.”

“And, of course, the EU will continue to invest in defense spending and in the preparation of Europe even more after this incident,” he said.

The Bulgarian government issued a statement by saying that “the satellite signal used for the GPS navigation of the aircraft was interrupted. As the plane approached the Plovdiv airport, the GPS signal was lost.”

Von der Leyen said to the Financial Times newspaper, in an interview published on Sunday, that European nations had formulated “precise plans” for postwar troops deployments in Ukraine, if diplomatic efforts led by President Trump succeed in negotiating a truce.

The EU chief told the newspaper that Trump had assured him that there would be an “American presence” as “support” to the security guarantees offered to Ukraine as part of any high high fire, but did not offer details about what that could include.

President Trump has made it clear It will not deploy US forces to Ukraine As part of any peace agreement with Russia.
