The hiker dies after being trampled by cows in Austriac Alps

An 85 -year -old hiker in the Austrian Alps was killed after a herd of cows was already trampled to him already his wife while walking to his dog, local police said Monday.
The 82 -year -old man and his wife were walking towards a mountain cabin in Ramsau Am Dachstein in the province of Austria on Sunday afternoon when the incident occurred, police said.
“A couple withdrawn from Vienna and her dog walked just below the so -called Austria cabin when a nine cow’s flock, including three calves, accused them and hurt severely,” said local police spokesman Markus Lamb.

The hikers in the area and the people who run the near refuge cabin witnessed the attack, administered first aid and alerted emergency services. The couple was taken to a hospital in Salzburg.
The man died from his wounds before he could undergo emergency surgery, authorities said.
Local prosecutors are investigating the exact circumstances of the attack, waiting for an autopsy.
Fatal cows attacks are rare in the nation of more than nine million people, whose mountains are a popular tourist attraction where cows herds graze freely.
In 2024, a woman, accompanied by two small dogs, who walked in the Salzburg region, died when a herd of cows accused her.
After a mortal cow attack a decade earlier, the Austrian government published a “code of conduct” for hikers.
The guidelines include maintaining a distance from cows and fishing dogs in a short song, but unleashed in case of attack.
