The mandates of the school vaccine can disappear in the state of the south, announces the general surgeon

The general surgeon of Florida, Dr. Joseph Ladapo, has announced that Sunshine State is working to end all vaccine mandates.

At a joint press conference on Wednesday with Governor Ron Desantis, Ladapo said that the Florida Health Department (FDH), together with the governor’s office, will end “until the last” of vaccine mandates for schoolchildren under the law of Florida.

“The last one is wrong and drips with disdain and slavery,” Ladapo said. “Who am I, as a government or any other person, to tell you what you should put on your body? I don’t have that right. Your body is a gift from God.”

Desantis emphasized that the informed consent is essential, stating that “the information given to people, where they can then make an informed decision, should be the basis of how we work in health and medicine.”

According to FDH, eight vaccines are required for children attending child care, preschool and K – 12 schools in Florida.

For child and preschooleal care facilities, acellular diphtheria-tétanos (DTAP) cough; IPV (polio); Measles, paper and rubella (MMR); chickenpox; Hib; Pneumococcal conjugate; and hepatitis B shots are required.

DTAP (4-5 doses), IPV (4-5 dose), MMR (2 doses), hepatitis B (3 dose) and chickenpox (2 dose or prior infection) for K-12 students. In seventh grade, students should also obtain a TDAP dose (tetanus, diphtheria, chancellary cough).

News senior medical analyst, Dr. Marc Siegel, told News Digital that mandates do not work for some vaccines, specifically when a virus or other pathogens spread despite immunization.

“For vaccines that avoid transmission, as with measles, papers, rubella, chickenpox or polyomyelitis, and where the virus itself has the possibilities of severe results, so school mandates make sense, since these viruses spread among schoolchildren,” he said.

In the example of measles, Siegel said: “The only way to achieve the immunity of the flock is through vaccination, where propagation stops.”

He added: “Those who cannot obtain that vaccine because they are immunocompromised (if it is a living virus vaccine, they cannot have it) are protected by those who surround them.”

Creating a community of immunity around highly contagious viruses through the use of vaccines is “responsible public health,” Siegel added.

While Florida would be the first to implement a state vaccine prohibition, other states have proposed or approved similar legislation.

During the 2024-2025 school season, vaccines among Kindergarten children decreased for all informed vaccines of the previous year, according to the centers for disease control and prevention.
