Ethan Guo, an influencer of US social networks that has been stuck at a Chilean air base in Antarctica For two months after landing a plane without permission, he was released on Saturday back to the continent, where he had to pay $ 30,000 in fines.
In a statement to News themezone, Guo’s lawyer said he is doing “quite well,” and added that he seemed to have been treated well at the air base.
“Of course, we do not agree with the legal process open against him, but he has already closed with a type of dismissal,” said Jaime Barrientos RamÃrez.
Guo, who was 19 when he began his mission of collection of funds for cancer investigation, tried to become the youngest person to fly only to the seven continents.
But he was arrested after the Chilean authorities said he lied to officials by providing the authorities with “False Flight Plan data.” The prosecutors said that he had been authorized to fly only on Punta Arenas in southern Chile, but that he was still going to the south, heading to Antarctica in his 182q Cessna, a light plane of a single engine known for his versatility.

After landing in the Antarctic territory of Chile on June 28, it was arrested on a military base Amid legal negotiations between their lawyers and the government. Guo, who is originally from Tennessee and turned 20 in July, spent two months living at the base with limited communications and freezing Antarctic winter temperatures that submerge below zero. The last video he published on Instagram was on June 23, in which he flew from the city of Davao in the Philippines to Manila.
Guo said he hoped to become the first pilot to complete a solo flight on the seven continents in a small Cessna, a feat that simultaneously aims to raise $ 1 million for cancer investigation through the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In his site, Guo cites the diagnosis of cancer 2021 of his cousin as his source of inspiration.
He was released by a Chilean judge with the condition that he donated the money he has raised to a childhood cancer foundation within 30 days and leaves the country as soon as possible. It is also forbidden to enter the Chilean territory for three years.
The influencer’s lawyer told The News that Guo landed because he had to divert his plane due to poor climatic conditions and that he received the authorization from the Chilean authorities.
“To his surprise, when he was about to take off to Punta Arenas, he was arrested, in a process that from my perspective was a total exaggeration,” said Barrientos.
Barrientos said he was happy with the agreement reached with the authorities.
Guo landed on Saturday in Punta Arenas aboard a Marina ship with a Chilean national football team and seemed friendly to the press after landing, describing his arrest as an “mundane” experience with “limited freedoms.”
“The Chilean people have been incredibly hospitable; they have been fantastic people. They have taken care of me. They have taught me Spanish and have treated me as a family,” he said.
