Mariah Carey interprets her best successes in VMA, but critics noticed that something was out
Mariah Carey was scheduled to steal the program in the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday, and although she received the coveted Avangard Aviation of the Network, the R&B singer made a mixture of her best hits in advance, to quite mixed reactions on social networks.
“Why doesn’t Mariah Carey’s body move when he acts?” One of the many users asked in X, the platform previously known as Twitter, with another person commenting: “Mariah Carey on that scenario gives us absolutely nothing that is crying.”
The Vide Vaguard award is MTV’s highest honor and is awarded only to artists who have had a deep impact on music video and popular culture. The pop companion of pop Ariana Grande introduced Carey as her last winner on Sunday, which led to a polarizing performance.
Carey, who seemed to be synchronizing his lips during at least part of his time on stage, certainly seemed to give the crowd what they wanted, and made fragments of some of his most famous songs, “Sugar Sweet”, “Fantasy”, “Heartbreaker” and finally, “we belong together.”
However, critics could not help feeling that these songs did not belong to that performance.
“Am I crazy or does it seem that Mariah Carey is synchronizing with lips and also that she is rigid as a board is killing me,” wrote an user in X, with another person commenting: “Mariah Carey looks impressive and gives absolutely nothing.”

Carey has been a pillar of pop culture for several decades and went home, independently. He not only won his first VMA during the press for “Type Dangerous” of 2025, but he really joined the annals of the history of MTV as a new avant -garde.
“Thank you very much MTV for giving me the avant -garde award,” Carey said on the podium. “I can’t believe I am receiving my first VMA tonight. I only have one question: what in Sam’s hill you were waiting for?
“Being here brings incredible memories,” he continued. “Like when I introduced his brother to his vanguard award, or when Whitney Houston and I opened the show with a false confrontation … It was a moment.”
The prize has previously gone to people like Michael Jackson, David Bowie and Beyoncé.
Grande said in his presentation on Sunday that Carey, the only “queen” of the vocalists, has sung “the soundtrack of our lives.” While his avant -garde victory is an invaluable achievement, it certainly seemed that many social media users were eager to press “jump.”
