Military expert explains why Israel

The retired Admiral James Stavridis said that the risks of Israel’s decision to attack the political leaders of Hamas who were in Doha, Qatar, to discuss a proposal of Alto El Fuego de Gaza supported by the United States exceeded on Tuesday the possible benefits of the raid, during an interview with CNN on Wednesday.

Speaking to John Berman of CNN, Stavridis explained why the operation was, in his words, “it was not worth it.”

“Tactically, this really decreases the life opportunity of hostages” in the hands of Hamas in Gaza, Stavridis said. “Secondly, operationally, I think this will only encourage Israel to continue terrestrial operations in Gaza. That will kill thousands of civilians, probably also hundreds of Israeli troops.”

But Stavridis pointed out that, most importantly, the operation may have been a strategic false step by the Israelis.

“You have launched a strike to a sovereign nation, a very close ally of the United States,” he said. “I have been in Doha, the capital, too many times to count because it is our largest air base in the region, Al-Edeid, very well organized by the Qatar.”

“Therefore, he has managed to emphasize the relationship with the United States, emphasize the relationship with Europeans and, above all, makes the Arabs be carried out with the next phase of the Arab agreements,” he added. “It is simply not a good compensation for Israel.”
