The governor of Pennsylvania, Josh Shapiro (D), called President Donald Trump on Thursday for blaming the murder of Charlie Kirk for the “left radical” rhetoric, pointing out that his response “lost the brand.”

In an interview with ABC News Live, Shapiro said Trump should have spoken against political violence from all sides.

“I think it is dangerous when the president jungle the political violence that will condemn and that it will simply allow to pass. I think we must be universal to condemn all political violence,” Shapiro said. “The president lost the brand [Wednesday] night in your direction of the oval office.

In a video message posted by the White House following Kirk’s mortal shooting during an event on a university campus in Utah, Trump pointed out with the “radical left” finger for the murder of the right -wing political activist, despite the fact that officials have not yet identified a reason behind their murder.

“It is time for all Americans and the media to confront the fact that violence and murder are the tragic consequence of demonizing those with whom they do not agree,” Trump said. “For years, those in the radical left have compared wonderful Americans as Charlie with the Nazis and the worst murderers and mass criminals of the world. This type of rhetoric is directly responsible for the terrorism we are seeing in our country today, and must stop at this time.”

The authorities are still looking for the shooter almost two days after Kirk’s murder. But Trump said they were making “great progress” in his search for the suspect.

Shapiro was a victim of political violence earlier this year when a man set fire to the mansion of the governor of Pennsylvania while Shapiro and his family slept inside. The suspect has been accused of attempted murder, terrorism and aggravated assault, among other positions.
