New York (AP) – Matthew Dowd opened a gate.

MSNBC’s political analyst, who lost his work shortly after the comments on the air about the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, was the first of many figures to face consequences on Thursday for public statements or actions on the shooting.

In fact, raw feelings about the murder have turned on a campaign for shame, and more. Several conservative activists sought to identify the users of social networks whose publications about Kirk saw as offensives or celebration. The influence of the right Laura Loomer said she would try to ruin the professional aspirations of anyone who celebrated Kirk’s death.

MSNBC said Dowd is no longer with the network after his comments, shortly after the shooting, about “hate words” that lead to “hate actions.” Both MSNBC president, Rebecca Kutler and Dowd, apologized for the comments, which Kutler called “inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable.”

Declaration of the president of MSNBC, Rebecca Kutler: “During our last minute news coverage of Charlie Kirk’s shooting, Matthew Dowd made comments that were inappropriate, insensitive and unacceptable. We apologize for his statements, just like him. There is no place for violence in …

Dowd said he had no intention of his comments to blame Kirk for the attack. Even so, he brought abrupt interruption to his work as a television commentator, that President of President George W. Bush has done for almost two decades.

Shares distributed throughout the country, from Mississippi to Arizona

A Florida reporter was suspended by a question raised for a congressman. A comics writer lost her job due to publications on social networks, as well as educators in Mississippi and Tennessee. The host of “News Mornings”, Nate Burleson, was attacked by a question. A sports reporter from Arizona and a public relations official of the Carolina Panthers, both lost jobs.

An anonymously registered website promised to “expose Charlie’s murderers” and asked people to offer advice on people who were “supporting online political violence.”

The site published an execution list on Thursday of specific publications, along with the names, locations and employers of people who published them. While some publications contained a incendiary language, others did not seem to celebrate the shooting or glorify violence. There were several similar efforts, including one of the activist Scott Presler, who asked his followers about the teachers who allegedly celebrated the murder of Kirk and published findings in X.

A member of the Mississippi University personnel was fired after sharing “insensitive comments” about Kirk’s death, according to school chancellor, Glenn Boyce. The university did not identify the employee or immediately answer the questions of News.

The president of the State University of Middle Tennessee said he had fired an employee who offered “insensitive and inappropriate comments on social networks” about the murder. President Sidney A. McPhee did not identify the staff member, but said the person “worked in a position of trust with our students.”

It was not clear if he was the same person, but an X position of the Senator of the Republican Party of Tennessee, Marsha Blackburn, identified a dean assistant of students in MTSU who published online that he had “zero sympathy” after the shooting. Blackburn said the person should be ashamed and farewell.

A warning to teachers in Florida

The Education Commissioner of the Governor of Florida, Ron Desantis, warned State teachers to make “unpleasant” statements about Kirk’s murder could attract sanctions, including the suspension or revocation of their teaching licenses. Anastasios Kamoutsas Commissioner said in a memorandum to the superintendents of the school district who had been known of the “despicable” comments on social networks.

“I will conduct an investigation of each educator that gets involved in this vile and sanctionable behavior,” Kamoutsas said in the memorandum, which he also published in X on Thursday. “Govern accordingly.”

Teachers are subject to a higher standard as public servants and must ensure that their behavior does not undermine the confidence of the students and families they serve. Teachers are subject to a higher standard as public servants and must ensure that their behavior does not undermine the confidence of the students and families they serve. We will do responsibility to the teachers who choose to make unpleasant comments on the horrible murder of Charlie Kirk. … pic.twitter.com/kzxcgkvzm

Police’s comment to the police seemed to be not very precedents in other recent examples of political violence, such as the 2022 attack against Paul Peeli, husband of the then president Nancy Pelosi, or shooting deaths earlier this year.

DC Comics announced that he was abandoning a new series “Red Hood”, a spin -off from Batman, after a number had been published and that two more were in process. The comic writer, Gretchen Felker-Martin, had published comments on the filming of Kirk online that DC called offensive.

“Publications or public comments that can be considered as promoting hostility or violence are inconsistent with DC behavior standards,” said the comics editor.

Loomer, whose pressure campaigns have resulted in several shots from the Trump administration, attacked the TMZ entertainment website, so she called a “unpleasant” live broadcast where employees could be heard laughing and cheering seconds before Kirk’s death was announced. TMZ said that the noise had nothing to do with Kirk’s story: staff members were crowded by a computer watching a car persecution, but apologized for the bad moment and how it looked for spectators.

A writer of the Media Company of Arizona Phnx Sports was fired after conservative activists called attention to a series of online publications that attacked Kirk’s positions in arms and Gaza and called him evil.

The NFL panthers were distanced from an employee who published comments about Kirk and a photo that refers to the Wu-Tang song “Protect Yo Neck”. Kirk was shot in the neck. The soccer communications coordinator, Charlie Rock, was fired, according to a person with knowledge of the situation that spoke about anonymity because the team generally does not announce shots.

The name of rock has been eliminated from the team’s website. He did not immediately respond messages in search of comments.

The soccer star turned into the News presenter under attack

Burleson, a former soccer star became a presenter of the Morning Program of News, was attacked online for asking the former president of the Kevin McCarthy representatives in the air on Thursday if this was a time for the Republican Party to reflect on political violence. His co-presenter, Gayle King, immediately tried to soften the question when intervening: “I would say both parties.”

Another former NFL player, Jay Feely, who ran for Congress in Arizona, said the question was offensive. “Charlie Kirk was killed in front of your family and you ask if Republicans need to mitigate their rhetoric?” said. (Kirk’s family was not present in the shooting). Some stars of the conservative media also intervened, with the presenter of interview programs Erick Erickson asking Burleson to be fired and Clay Travis called him a “moron.”

A reporter from the Floridapolitics.com news site was suspended for sending a text message to a Florida congressman a question about the control of weapons immediately after the Kirk shooting. Peter Schorsch editor, Floridapolitics.com, said he worried that reporter Ag Gancarski was trying to cause a source instead of starting a serious political discussion.

The American representative Randy Fine, a Republican from Florida, sent a text message that he had learned from the Kirk shooting only 23 minutes before and was rejected to get the question when people should pray for Kirk’s security. Schorsch said he agreed that the moment was inappropriate and that he did not want any of the members of his staff to be endangered by anyone who got angry at that.

“I think everyone should ask questions about a wide range of policies,” Schorsch said in an interview on Thursday. “But when a house is on fire, I don’t think you should ask a person’s insurance policy. First turn off the fire.”

He said Gancarski was a good reporter who made a mistake. He will return to work after a few days. Gancarski, contacted by phone, declined to comment.

The Jezebel feminist website eliminated a publication entitled “We paid some Etsy witches to curse Charlie Kirk” that was published on Monday, two days before Kirk’s death. “The piece was intended as satire and made it clear that we don’t want any physical damage. We are up to each word,” Jazebel said in an editor’s note.

“We can publish again on a later date, but due to compassion for the victim’s family, we want to make it clear that we prioritize the end of violence over anyone who wants to read about Etsy’s witches,” said Jezebel, in a reference to the online store.
