Vice President JD Vance is being beaten on social networks as a “hypocrite”, since an old clip of him promises to defend freedom of expression has resurfaced in the midst of ABC’s suspension of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” – What caused Vance celebrations and President Donald Trump.

“And just as the Biden administration seemed desperate to silence people to say what they think, the Trump administration will do precisely the opposite, and I hope we can work together on that,” Vance said at the Munich Security Conference in February.

“In Washington, there is a new sheriff in the city,” he continued at that time. “And under the leadership of Donald Trump, we can disagree with his views, but we will fight to defend his right to offer it in the public square, agree or disagree.”

Critics on social networks have highlighted the clip after the Kimmel program.

“Unless you are Jimmy Kimmel. Or any other person who does not agree with us,” a user wrote on Thursday in X, previously Twitter, and another person commented: “I suppose that he changed his mind substantially fundamentally that completely closed freedom of expression.”

The suspension of the Kimmel program has generated an absolute indignation of legislators, experts and Democratic celebrities. Even conservative commentators such as former News presenter, Tucker Carlson, denounced the apparent blow against freedom of expression as “dark.”

The measure occurs after Nexstar Media Group said he would stop issuing the Kimmel program about concerns about his comments. Nexstar is looking for an important fusion with the Tegna media company, and needs the approval of the Trump Federal Communications Commission.

“The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” was also markedly canceled earlier this year in similar plans of a fusion, between the News Paramount Global Company and Skydance Media. The Trump administration approved it in July after Colbert was officially expelled.

Vance increased his divisive rhetoric after the fatal shooting of the right -wing activist Charlie Kirk. He took over the Kirk show on Monday of the White House and urged citizens to inform people of their employers for insensitive comments about it.

His confrontation vote of defending freedom of expression in February has led critics to say what they think.
