Bernie Sanders intervenes if Israel is carrying out the genocide of the Palestinians

Israel has had a good self-defense and is now carrying out a genocide in the Gaza Strip, Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT.) On Wednesday he said in a long statement establishing his agreement with a United Nations panel that found the situation complied with the legal definition of genocide.

Sanders is the first senator to apply the term to Israel, who has been fighting war in the small strip of land with the help of US taxpayers dollars for almost two years. Some other elected Democrats, such as representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (Dn.y.) and Ilhan Omar (D-minn.), Have been using the word for months.

The minority of the house, the whip of Katherine Clark (D-Mass.), Said last month that “genocide and destruction” in Gaza, but then backed away.

Sanders cited a series of devastating statistics: more than 65,000 people have been killed, with more bodies that are still under the rubble. Of those deaths, eighty -three percent of those deaths were civilians. Hundreds were humanitarian workers and journalists. Seventy percent of all structures have been destroyed. Ninety percent of water and sanitation facilities have become inoperable.

“The intention is clear,” Sanders wrote. “The conclusion is inescapable: Israel is committing genocide in Gaza.”

He continued: “I recognize that many people may disagree with this conclusion. The truth is that, whether I call it genocide or ethnic cleaning or massive atrocities or war crimes, the way to follow is clear. We, as Americans, must end our complicity in the killing of the Palestinian people.”

Sanders pointed out an effort that led to forcing a vote in the Senate that would block the sale of weapons to Israel, which failed.

The Trump administration has been firm in its commitment to Israel, even when the support of what support existed throughout the world for its brutal war has vanished.

Sanders began his statement by stating that Israel had the right to defend himself after a multitude of extremist combatants crossed the border and killed some 1,200 people on October 7, 2023.

“But, in the last two years, Israel has not simply defended Hamas. On the other hand, he has fought a total war against the entire Palestinian people,” he wrote on a publication on his Senate’s website simply entitled: “It’s genocide.”

He then argued that the problem “goes beyond Israel and Palestine.”

“Worldwide, democracy is on the defensive. Hate, racism and division are on the rise. The challenge we now face is to prevent the world from descending to barbarism, where horrible crimes against humanity can take place with impunity,” he wrote.
