Bernie Sanders intervenes if Israel is carrying out the genocide of the Palestinians

He continued: “I recognize that many people may disagree with this conclusion. The truth is that, whether I call it genocide or ethnic cleaning or massive atrocities or war crimes, the way to follow is clear. We, as Americans, must end our complicity in the killing of the Palestinian people.”

Sanders pointed out an effort that led to forcing a vote in the Senate that would block the sale of weapons to Israel, which failed.

The Trump administration has been firm in its commitment to Israel, even when the support of what support existed throughout the world for its brutal war has vanished.

Sanders began his statement by stating that Israel had the right to defend himself after a multitude of extremist combatants crossed the border and killed some 1,200 people on October 7, 2023.

“But, in the last two years, Israel has not simply defended Hamas. On the other hand, he has fought a total war against the entire Palestinian people,” he wrote on a publication on his Senate’s website simply entitled: “It’s genocide.”

“Worldwide, democracy is on the defensive. Hate, racism and division are on the rise. The challenge we now face is to prevent the world from descending to barbarism, where horrible crimes against humanity can take place with impunity,” he wrote.

“We must say now and forever that, although wars can happen, there are certain basic standards that must be confirmed. Children’s hunger cannot be tolerated. The flattening of cities should not become the norm. The collective punishment is beyond the pale.”

Sanders even evoked the holocaust, “one of the darkest chapters in human history”, to say that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must be responsible for war crimes.
