Suspect in fire caused in Pennsylvania, Governor Shapiro

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (AP) – a man who according to the authorities climbed an iron security fence in the middle of the night, eluded the police and broke into the mansion of the Governor of Pennsylvania where he caught fire in a police custody in a hospital after an unrelated medical event, state police said on Monday.

Cody Balmer told the Police that he had planned to beat Governor Josh Shapiro with a small deck if he found it, according to judicial documents. He was being treated in the hospital and the police said that “he was not connected to this incident or his arrest.”

The fire left significant damage and forced Shapiro, his family and invited to evacuate the building at dawn on Sunday. Balmer, who was arrested later in the day, faces positions that include attempted homicide, terrorism, fire and aggravated assault, authorities said.

Balmer had walked an hour from his home to the Governor’s residence, and during a police interview, “Balmer admitted to having hosted hatred towards Governor Shapiro,” according to a police affidavit, but did not explain why.

Shapiro said that he, his wife, his four children, two dogs and another family had celebrated the Jewish Easter party at the residence on Saturday and were awakened by state soldiers who hit their doors at 2 in the morning on Sunday. They fled and firefighters extinguished the fire, authorities said. No one was injured.

At a press conference on Sunday night, in front of the South wing seriously damaged from the residence of the Governor, the Colonel of the State of Pennsylvania, Christopher Paris, identified the man in custody as Balmer, 38, of Harrisburg.

Balmer delivered after confessing his “former parameter,” said the affidavit. The authorities had initially said that he was being transported to Dauphin County prison, but did not say if he has a lawyer. The calls to the people who are believed to be relatives were unanswered or not withdrawn on Sunday. A recent residence quoted in Harrisburg was sentenced in 2022.

Shapiro says he is not

Paris emphasized that the investigation continues. The authorities did not reveal the reason for man, but an emotional shapypir, which is seen as a potential White House contender for the Democratic Party in 2028, said it has not been put.

Shapiro said that if Balmer was trying to prevent his job from doing, then he will work harder, and added that Balmer will not prevent him from observing his faith.

“When we were in the state dining room last night, we told the history of Easter” and the exodus of the Jews of slavery in Egypt until freedom, Shapiro said. “I refuse to get caught by slavery that someone tries to put me attacking how they did here last night. I refuse to let anyone who had evil intentions like that prevents me from doing the work I love.”

Police say that the suspect rose to the security fence and forcibly entered the residence

The authorities said that the suspect jumped to an iron safety fence almost 7 feet (2.1 meters high) that surrounded the property, eluded the officers who realized the rape and entered by force before putting it on fire. He used gasoline -filled beer bottles to make Molotov cocktails, say the documents.

Lieutenant Colonel George Bivens said Balmer seemed to have carefully planned the attack. He was inside the residence for approximately a minute before escaping, Bivens said.

Bivens said Balmer was later arrested in the area.

Balmer has faced criminal charges in the last decade, including simple assault, theft and falsification, according to the records of the online criminal court.

“We have to be better than this,” says Shapiro

Shapiro said the fire was established in the room where he and his family celebrated Easter with a Seder with members of the Jewish community of Harrisburg on Saturday night.

“We still don’t know the specific reason for the person,” Shapiro said at the press conference. “But we do know some truths. First: this type of violence is not right. This type of violence is becoming too common in our society. And I don’t care if it comes from one side or another in particular, aimed at a particular part or another or one person in particular or another. It is not right, and you have to stop. We have to be better than this.”

The fire seriously damaged the interior of the great room that is often used to entertain crowds and art exhibitions. Large windows oriented to the south and south were completely their glass panels, the shattered glass covered the roads and the doors were removed in the middle of carbonization signs. The windows and brick panels around the doors and windows were blackened and carbonized.

Inside, a carbonized piano, tables, walls, metal buffet that serve dishes and more could be seen through broken windows and black fire doors.
