President Donald Trump as monarch?

“Fuck. That!” Actor and vehement Trump critic Robert De Niro said in a new video promoting the “No Kings” protests that multiple progressive groups are organizing in Washington, D.C. and across the United States on October 18, and which Republican leaders have criticized as “Hate America” demonstrations.

De Niro, speaking in a clip shared by the Indivisible Project, drew parallels to America’s founding fight against the monarchy by noting how “the original ‘No Kings’ protest was 250 years ago” when Americans decided “that they did not want to live under the rule of King George III” and “declared their independence and waged a bloody war for democracy.”

The Oscar winner continued: “We’ve had two and a half centuries of democracy since then. Often challenging, sometimes confusing, always essential. And we fought two world wars to preserve it.”

“Now we have a future king who wants to take it away from us. King Donald I,” he added.

“Fuck. That!” De Niro said.

“We are rising again. This time, raising our voices non-violently to declare ‘no kings,'” he said, concluding: “We are all in this together, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”
