President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron shared another long, aggressive handshake as they met at the signing of the Gaza peace deal in Egypt.
The two met before the “family photo” of world leaders who had gathered in Sharm el-Sheikh on Monday to witness the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
Trump was photographed graciously shaking hands with presidents, prime ministers and other leaders, before the room was apparently infused with testosterone when France’s head of state arrived. (Watch a video at the beginning of the story.)

During the 27-second close, they began with a traditional handshake and near-hug before both leaders appeared to be trying to pull each other up while holding on overhead.
When Macron tried to break away, Trump continued to stand his ground. This appeared to force the French president to grab his counterpart’s forearm before they finally separated.

The shake and smile was captured on News, with host John Roberts describing the confrontation as a “brother shake.” Raw viral footage of the handshake characterized it as an “arm wrestle.”

The incident is just the latest in a long history of protracted handshakes between Trump and Macron that began in 2017 at their first in-person meeting and continued in February when they met to discuss a possible end to Russia’s war against Ukraine.

Trump was in Egypt to discuss post-war plans for Gaza and the proposed US deal with other leaders.
It came as Hamas released the last 20 living Israeli hostages on Monday as part of the historic deal after two years of war that has devastated the Gaza Strip.
Buses carrying dozens of freed Palestinian prisoners headed to the West Bank city of Ramallah and the Gaza Strip, the Hamas-run Prisoners Office said, as Israel has freed more than 1,900 prisoners.
