Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R.S.D.) attempted Thursday to distance himself from one of the wild claims about Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s health, though he stopped short of calling the health secretary’s guidance “dangerous.”
Speaking with MSNBC journalist Ali Vitali during an interview broadcast on the talk show “Morning Joe,” Thune said that if she were a woman, she “wouldn’t take the advice” of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet member, who is a well-known anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist.
Thune’s comments came after Vitali asked him whether Kennedy’s unscientific public health advice, which has generated significant controversy among medical and public health experts, is “dangerous.”
“Well, I’ve already said that I think if I were a woman, I would talk to my doctor and not follow the advice of RFK or any other government bureaucrat,” Thune responded.
Last month, Kennedy and Trump made an announcement. Linking Tylenol use during pregnancy to autism. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists crashed Administration’s untested guidance is “irresponsible” and “disturbing” in a statement.
Days after the comments about Tylenol, which were not motivated by any significant new research, Thune said he was “very concerned.”
Kennedy, who was appointed by Trump, has a long history of spreading misleading and false health claims, including repeated incorrect claims about vaccines who have raised questions about their safety.

Early in his interview with MSNBC, Vitali questioned Thune about whether he believes the Republican Party is becoming a “party without dissent” and whether he would consider it “healthy.”
“I mean, I would argue and I have disagreed several times in recent weeks,” Thune said, prompting him to point out his previous opposition to RFK Jr.’s Tylenol claims.
Thune went on to say that “there are issues and issues on which we have differences of opinion,” but that he typically prefers to “litigate them in private rather than in public.”
“But I think there are many examples and many times I could point out where we have differences of opinion and make my voice clear,” he continued.
Thune noted that “in some cases it results in a change and in other cases it does not.”
