Former WH press secretary challenged for defending Biden
The Bulwark’s Tim Miller confronted former White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre in a testy moment in an interview Monday after she defended Joe Biden’s performance in the Oval Office.
Jean-Pierre, who is promoting a new book about the Biden White House after leaving the Democratic Party in June, recalled trying to improve the former president’s policies and his “legislative victories” before Miller intervened.
“Sure, but he didn’t speak very highly of them. He couldn’t speak of them. He wasn’t campaigning that vigorously,” said Miller, a former spokesman for the Republican National Committee.
Jean-Pierre responded, “No, no, no. Wait, first of all, first of all, he talked about them. Whether he broke through or not, he did it, Tim. He did it.”
Miller, who moments earlier questioned the “absurd” suggestion that Biden had the “stamina” to continue fighting Trump and remain in office for another four years, responded quickly.
“I mean, he talked to the press a lot less than Donald Trump, a lot less. And he wasn’t there at all, he wasn’t spontaneously good, he didn’t give press conferences. Let’s face it. Like he didn’t do late-night events,” he said.

“But Tim, that’s not true,” Jean-Pierre responded. “Tim, you’re combining everything.”
“I’m not,” Miller responded.
“No, first you tell me that he didn’t speak well about the subject, then you tell me that he didn’t speak at all,” Jean-Pierre said.
“He didn’t either. He didn’t talk very often and when he did, he wasn’t very good. He sounded very old and weak,” Miller argued.
The interview aired hours after “News Mornings” host Gayle King told Jean-Pierre that it was “hard to understand” his claims in the book that he didn’t see Biden’s deteriorating health on a flight to his disastrous debate with Trump.

Jean-Pierre, in his interview with Miller, stated that Biden spoke to Americans “a couple of times a week” and also traveled to speak directly with them, during an “incredibly partisan” time in the country’s political history.
