News anchor Bryant Gumbel is in the hospital after suffering a “medical emergency” on Monday night, according to TMZ.

First responders reportedly carried Gumbel, 77, out of his Manhattan apartment on a stretcher around 9 p.m. before he was transported to emergency medical facilities by ambulance. He remains hospitalized since Tuesday.

While there were no details on the nature of his health issue, his family told TMZ that he is “doing well.”

News was unable to reach Gumbel’s representatives for further comment.

The legendary broadcaster has had to deal with serious medical problems in the past, suffering from lung cancer in 2009.

Gumbel was a mainstay of NBC’s morning programming, hosting the “Today” show from 1982 to 1997.

He also hosted HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” until his retirement in 2023.
