Governor Newsom takes criticism of Trump to the next level:

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) condemns President Donald Trump for “disappearing” [people] based on the color of their skin” in the midst of their violent and extensive ICE raids.

Appearing in “all the smokeOn Saturday’s podcast hosted by former NBA stars Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Newsom was asked how the nation can “recover” from Trump’s mass deportation agenda.

“We talk about authoritarianism and people say, ‘What do you feel here?’ For guys like me, maybe not yet,” Newsom said, speaking about the president’s increased immigration and deportation raids. “But for the black and brown community, are you kidding me?”

The Democratic governor continued to denounce the way immigrants have been terrified to carry out everyday tasks such as walking their dogs, going to the clinic or attending their relatives’ funerals, because they fear being attacked by ICE.

“It’s not just about the skin, it’s about where you congregate. It’s the language you speak or your accent. In the United States in 2025, people [are] disappearing [with] “There are no rights to due process,” he continued.

Newsom noted that “masked” ICE agents are “literally jumping out of the back of the U-haul.” [trucks]” without identifying themselves to capture “Americans, tourists [and] some people [who are] here with documentation, some without.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Newsom talked about his encounter with a teenager who grew up in Ventura County, California, who he said was afraid to talk to him after his parents disappeared following an ICE raid. The politician said that ICE “destroyed [their car] window” and arrested them on their way to work at a “packaging facility.”

“This is the United States in 2025: Donald Trump. Terror in the streets of the United States,” he added. “Take Black Hawk helicopters and make people rappel [into people’s homes] and sitting there while the children are in diapers, in their cribs.”

Newsom further criticized ICE for attacking people “who are naked and sleeping, and literally putting guns to their heads and tying them up” before “brutally throwing them onto the streets and sidewalks.”

Emphasizing that this “is happening in America today,” Newsom continued: “So this is serious and it has happened in [Los Angeles] – first city to be terrorized [by Trump’s deployment of National Guard troops and ICE agents] … [It] continues to this day.”

He added: “Now you have it in Portland and places like Illinois. Yesterday they threatened San Francisco.”

Newsom’s comments came after he vowed last week to sue the Trump administration in a “nanosecond” if the White House moved forward with its plan to deploy the National Guard to San Francisco.

Newsom argued that the reported plans by Trump and White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller to send more than 100 federal immigration agents to the San Francisco Bay Area are part of the pair’s “authoritarian playbook,” claiming they are “looking to” “invoke chaos.”

Trump and Newsom have repeatedly clashed publicly, as the latter has frequently criticized the president for his widespread attack on immigrants.

In recent months, the Trump administration has deployed federal agents to Democratic-led cities, including Chicago and Los Angeles, where they have incited violent raids and brutal arrests.
