A Washington Post editorial published Saturday gushed about President Donald Trump’s demolition of the East Wing of the White House to build a $300 million ballroom financed in part by Amazon, which Post owner Jeff Bezos founded.

The article noted that “fundraising for the ballroom creates problematic conflicts of interest,” but did not elaborate.

The surprising appearance was compounded by the newspaper’s unabashed applause for the project.

“Like the United States, [the White House] It must evolve with the times to maintain its greatness. Strong leaders reject calcification. In that way, Trump’s initiative is a cross-blow to NIMBYs everywhere,” the editorial said, referring to the acronym for people who advocate “not in my backyard.”

The Post, which highlighted Bezos’ ownership while listing some donors, also praised Trump through the eyes of what “others” see in him: “A lifelong builder who boldly pursues a grand vision, a change agent unafraid to decisively take on the status quo, and a developer who cuts through red tape that would stymie any normal politician.”

The Washington Post strongly supported Donald Trump's demolition of the east wing to clear the way for a ballroom.

The newspaper claimed that White House alumni under Joe Biden and Barack Obama thought the move was “long overdue” and touted Trump’s ability to “pursue a reasonable idea in the most jarring way possible.”

In February, Bezos announced an overhaul of the Post’s editorial section to focus on “personal liberties and free markets,” which at least one staffer translated to mean he was preventing dissent. The then opinion editor resigned. The change appeared to be part of an effort by technology companies to get closer to the president.
