“I didn’t agree with him on almost every point I heard him say, but I think he was a man of faith, and I hope that in that moment when he died, he felt connected to his faith,” Curtis said as he sobbed in the “WTF with Marc Maron” podcast.

“Although… I found his ideas abhorrent,” he continued. “I still believe he is a father, a husband and a man of faith. And I hope that any connection with God means that he felt it.”

Given that the “True Lies” star has primarily expressed liberal views throughout her long career, Curtis fans who criticized Kirk’s activism were quite outraged. Especially since Curtis’ daughter, Ruby Guest, is trans. Kirk was a unapologetic transphobia peddler.

Curtis told Variety that the reaction he received for his remarks about Kirk was “threatening.”

“An extract from him wrongtrans“I communicated what I was saying,” Curtis said of comments he made on a podcast. “Like I wished him the best, like I was talking about him in a very positive way, which I wasn’t; I was just talking about his faith in God.”

“And it was a bad translation, which is a play on words, but no,” he continued. “In today’s binary world, you cannot hold two ideas at the same time: I cannot be Jewish and fully believe in Israel’s right to exist and at the same time reject the destruction of Gaza. You cannot say that, because you are vilified for having a mind that says, ‘I can hold both thoughts. I can be contradictory in that sense.'”

When Trish Deitch, the journalist who was interviewing Curtis for Variety, suggested that he might want to be “careful” with his words as a public figure, Curtis was apparently incensed.

“I don’t have to be careful,” he snapped at Deitch. “If I was careful, I wouldn’t have told you anything I just told you. I would have just said, ‘Hello, welcome. I baked you banana bread. Here’s my dog. Here’s my house, blah, blah, blah. What do you want to know?’ “I can’t not be who I am at the moment I am.”

This isn’t the first time Curtis’ knee-jerk public reactions have sparked controversy.
