Governor Newsom Gets Nervous After ABC Reporter Claims His Own Friends Compare Him to Patrick Bateman

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D) doesn’t seem to be a fan of social media users. comparing it to Wall Street entrepreneur turned serial killer Patrick Bateman from the 2000 film “American Psycho.”

In an awkward exchange during a Wednesday interview with Jonathan Karl of ABC News, The journalist suddenly brought up the comparison in the middle of their wide-ranging conversation.

“What do you think of all the talk about Patrick Bateman?” -Karl blurted out-.

“I don’t know, but…” Newsom began with a seemingly nervous laugh.

Karl then held up printed pages of memes depicting Newsom as the fictional character, played by Christian Bale, and told the politician: “People say you’re like ‘American Psycho.'”

“Jesus, yeah, like I said, ‘Newscum,’ I mean…” Newsom responded nervously, referring to the nickname given to him by President Donald Trump.

“But even your friends say that,” Karl added.

Visibly taken aback, the governor of California asked, “Oh, do they?” before joking: “I’m going to re-evaluate my guest list.”

To add fuel to the fire, Karl read aloud a line from an anonymous comedian who apparently called Newsom “a literal comic book villain from central casting” who has “Patrick Bateman vibes.”

“He definitely had someone killed or could have killed someone himself,” Karl added of the comedian’s comments about Newsom, prompting the politician to chuckle.

Joking that he’s “glad” to “still have some humor,” Newsom then took a more serious tone, telling Karl: “This is a tough issue. Especially if you’re willing to fight. And I just hope we get more fighters.”

He added: “I have no problem being out there with arrows in my back, as long as it gives some space for people to run over me and move forward.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the topic of Bateman came up again after Karl asked Newsom what the biggest misconception about him was.

“I don’t know what the misconception is. I think some of this, you know, some of Bateman, the looks, you know, the whole thing, right?” Newsom said, pointing to the printed memes. “The hair, all that, you know, and I think people see that. [and] believe certain things.”

Seeking clarification, Karl asked if he was referring to people who believed he was a “lightweight.”

“Is that what you’re saying?” he questioned.

“I think they think [I have] just a little more style versus substance. “I put the substance in terms of policymaking against it…and I mean it, that’s not bragging…I’m really proud of the policy work we’ve done.”
