Whoever wins will make history as the state’s first female governor.
The race for Virginia governor will be historic, as Democrat Abigail Spanberger or Republican Winsome Earle-Sears will become the first woman to hold the position.
Spanberger, a former member of Congress, campaigned with former President Barack Obama in the final days of the campaign, while Earle-Sears, the state’s current lieutenant governor, has sought to align herself with MAGA ideals. President Donald Trump has not offered an enthusiastic endorsement of Earle-Sears, simply stating that the “Republican nominee” should win.
