Former DHS official analyzes what Trump says
A former Homeland Security official who wrote an “anonymous” op-ed against Donald Trump’s first term explained what “worries” the president and his advisers after Democrats swept several key races on election night.
Miles Taylor, one of Trump’s perceived enemies who has become a target amid the president’s revenge tour for his second term, argued on his Substack page that Trump is “surely worried” about the party’s victories in the New York City mayoral race, as well as the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial races.
“Democrats learned, once again, how to win by turning to the center and talking to the majority of Americans who just want a country that works,” Taylor wrote.
“Trump should be shaking in his wrinkled pants, because what he fears most is what these results indicate. His dictator antics show him for what he really is. A loser.”

Earlier in the post, Taylor pointed out Trump’s message on his Truth Social platform, which linked the GOP’s losses to his absence from the ballot and the current government shutdown.
“This last statement was a shocking admission because he didn’t even bother to blame Democrats for the government shutdown,” Taylor said.
He added that a “more important reason” for Trump and his advisers’ concerns is “how the Democrats won” on Tuesday.
He argued that Virginia Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger (D) and New Jersey Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill (D) won because they “claimed the political center” at a time when voters are “nervous about the chaos” coming from the White House.
New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani (D) “revealed a paradox,” according to Taylor, with a victory “far from resounding” in margin compared to his predecessors’ victories in the recent general election.

“Overall, the overnight results did not indicate any creeping wave. It was a moderate wave,” Taylor wrote.
“The victories signaled that the Democratic Party is largely refocusing on stability and governance, not ideological performance. And that rightly makes the White House anxious.”
