Trump pardons key players in his plan to overturn the 2020 election

President Donald Trump has granted another sweeping round of pardons, this time to some of the key players in his effort to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, including his former personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani, according to his pardon attorney, Ed Martin.

Martin posted the proclamation document, which appears to have been signed by the president on Friday, on his personal

The document states: “This proclamation ends a grave national injustice perpetrated against the American people following the 2020 presidential election and continues the process of national reconciliation.”

Trump has ordered “a full, complete and unconditional pardon to all American citizens for conduct related to the advice, creation, organization, execution, presentation, support, voting, activities, participation or defense of any list or proposed list of presidential electors, whether or not recognized by any state or state official, in connection with the 2020 presidential election, as well as for any conduct related to his efforts to expose voter fraud and vulnerabilities in the 2020 presidential election,” it continues.

Rudolph Giuliani leads a press conference at the Republican National Committee about lawsuits related to the outcome of the 2020 presidential election on Nov. 19, 2020. Also appearing are Trump lawyers Jenna Ellis, left, and Sydney Powell.

The pardon applies to 77 people, including some of the lawyers involved in the plot to undo Joe Biden’s 2020 victory, such as Giuliani, Sidney Powell, John Eastman, Jenna Ellis and Kenneth Chesebro, as well as his former White House chief of staff, Mark Meadows, his former assistant Boris Epshteyn and Jeffrey Clark, who was a senior Justice Department official during Trump’s first term and is now acting head of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs.

The document explicitly states that the pardon does not apply to Trump.

In a statement shared with News themezone about the pardons, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said, “These great Americans were persecuted and put through hell by the Biden administration for challenging an election, which is the cornerstone of democracy.”

The statement added: “Being prosecuted for challenging results is something that happens in communist Venezuela, not the United States of America, and President Trump is ending the Biden regime’s communist tactics once and for all.”

In a statement to News themezone, Giuliani’s representative said Giuliani is “deeply grateful” for the pardon.

“This action further highlights the years of unfair attacks against the mayor and so many others, and reinforces what should now be clear to everyone,” the statement read. “Mayor Giuliani deserves to have his law license restored immediately and without delay.”

The nature of the pardon is largely symbolic, as none of those listed face federal charges. Additionally, Trump’s pardons do not apply to state or local offices.

Four of Trump’s co-defendants in the 2020 Georgia election interference case (Ellis, Powell, Chesebro and Scott Hall) had pleaded guilty in the 2020 Georgia election interference case, which was once considered one of the strongest cases against Trump. The fate of that case is now unclear after Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis was disqualified from prosecuting it.

Giuliani, Eastman, Powell, Clark and Chesebro were considered among Trump’s unnamed co-conspirators in his plot to steal the 2020 election, according to the indictment against the president filed by former special counsel Jack Smith. None of them were charged in the case, which was dropped after Trump’s victory in the November 2024 election.
