Oscar Isaac said he is not interested in any future “Star Wars” projects if Disney continues to bow to threats from President Donald Trump.
Addressing a possible reprisal for his role as resistance hero Poe Dameron from the 2015-2019 sequel trilogy in an interview with GQ published Monday, Isaac said, “Right now I’m not that open to working with Disney. But if they can figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great.”
“But if that happens, then yes, I would be open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away,” Isaac added. “Or any number of other things.”
According to an editor’s note, the interview “took place two days after ABC and Disney suspended production of ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ in response to Kimmel’s comments regarding the death of Charlie Kirk.”
Disney and its streaming arm, ABC, faced widespread outrage and thousands of canceled streaming subscriptions for suspending Kimmel’s late-night show in September following his comment about conservative backlash to the right-wing activist’s death.

People speculated that the companies suspended Kimmel’s program because Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr had said his agency would take “action” if Kimmel was not dealt with.
(Carr denied threatening to revoke ABC’s broadcast license and called the idea a Democratic “projection and distortion campaign.”)
Kimmel returned to the air five days later, following a national uproar over Disney’s decision and debates over whether the Trump administration was exercising its power to curb free speech.
While Isaac told GQ that he didn’t like working with Disney again for political reasons, he also previously said that “Star Wars” wasn’t in line with his creative ambitions.

During a 2020 panel with Deadline, he said the sci-fi franchise “wasn’t really what I set out to do” as an actor.
“What I set out to do was make handmade films and work with people who inspire me,” he explained at the time.
