Scott Jennings Sydney Sweeney Nod on CNN Gets Cringe and Vomit Reactions

Scott Jennings declared Tuesday that he would choose actor Sydney Sweeney as his emergency spokesman, but he was criticized for the “embarrassing” way he said it. One reviewer even dropped a vomit emoji.

To close out CNN’s “NewsNight,” anchor Abby Phillip referred to a recent moment on the red carpet when “Wicked: For Good” star Ariana Grande spoke on behalf of her co-star Cynthia Erivo, who had lost her voice.

Phillip then asked his panelists: “If you lost your voice, who would you want to speak on your behalf?”

Actors Morgan Freeman and Tracee Ellis Ross were among the responses before Jennings, the news network’s star Republican pundit, became uncomfortable.

“The most recent person to conduct an interview in our pop culture to exhibit message discipline and willingness to manhandle some ridiculous, woke reporter was Sydney Sweeney,” Jennings began. “And so I’m going to lose my voice on purpose and see if I can get Sydney to do all of my public interviews and speaking engagements. I think this would be a brilliant partnership. So if you want to do it, the job is yours. I’ve been selling a lot of books this week. I could use an extra pair of hands. So if Sydney wants to come on board, let’s do it right now.”

Jennings, whose new book about Donald Trump, “A Revolution of Common Sense,” came out Tuesday, appeared to refer to a recent interview in which a reporter tried to lure Sweeney into addressing a jeans ad that sparked controversy and Trump’s delight over a report that she is a registered Republican. But the “Christy” star largely deflected the questions. “I think that when I have a topic I want to talk about, people listen to me,” the actor told the journalist.
