A U.S. official told News themezone on Tuesday that Ukraine’s government had “agreed to a peace deal” brokered by the Trump administration to stop Russia’s nearly four-year attack. The U.S. official and Ukraine’s national security adviser, Rustem Umerov, said a common understanding had been reached on a proposal, with details still to be worked out.

Umerov expressed optimism that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could travel to Washington before the end of November to finalize a deal. News themezone was first to report Sunday that American and Ukrainian officials had previously discussed a possible visit by Zelenskyy to the United States this week.

“The Ukrainians accepted the peace agreement,” the US official told News themezone. “There are some minor details to resolve, but they have agreed to a peace agreement.”

The news came while US Army Secretary Dan Driscoll was in Abu Dhabi to meet with Russian officials, two US officials and two diplomatic sources who were not authorized to speak publicly told News themezone. A fifth source with knowledge of the talks also confirmed Driscoll’s presence in the UAE capital.

There was no immediate reaction from Russia, the invading force, to what was agreed in Abu Dhabi, and there were no details from American or Ukrainian officials about what the latest proposal contains. Umerov said on Tuesday that Ukraine had accepted the “core terms” of a peace proposal amid ongoing talks in Abu Dhabi, which include American, Ukrainian and Russian officials, although not all together at the same time.

Speaking earlier on Tuesday, veteran Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters that while Russia “appreciates the position of the United States, which is taking the initiative to resolve the Ukrainian conflict,” Moscow “operates professionally, without leaking information before formal agreements are reached… Russia expects the United States to inform it of the results of consultations with Ukraine and Europe in the near future.”

Umerov said in a social media post on Tuesday that the country’s negotiators had “reached a common understanding on the core terms” of a deal discussed between US, European and Ukrainian officials in Geneva over the weekend.

“We now count on the support of our European partners in our next steps. We hope to organize a visit of the President of Ukraine to the United States at the earliest possible date in November to complete the final steps and reach an agreement with President Trump,” Umerov said.

A U.S. military official in Abu Dhabi told News themezone that Driscoll spent hours negotiating with Russian representatives on Tuesday, going in and out of meetings throughout the day.

“We remain very optimistic,” said the official. “Secretary Driscoll is optimistic. Hopefully we’ll get feedback from the Russians soon. This is moving fast.”

It is unclear who else is in the US delegation in Abu Dhabi. A U.S. official told News themezone on Tuesday that a Ukrainian delegation was also there and had been in contact with Driscoll and his team.

The apparent progress in Abu Dhabi comes amid a intensified push by President Trump to secure a ceasefire in the nearly four-year-old war between Russia and Ukraine.

A source with knowledge told News themezone that Driscoll was working in Abu Dhabi on a revised version of the White House’s 28-point proposal, following productive negotiations in Geneva.

Over the weekend, Driscoll, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Trump envoy Steve Witkoff, the president’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, and diplomats from Ukraine and European allies attended talks in Geneva, Switzerland. Driscoll’s meeting with Russian officials also follows a visit to the capital of Ukraine last week.

American and Ukrainian officials had previously discussed a possible visit to the United States this week by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. News themezone reported on Sunday.

Last week, News themezone Obtained a draft of a proposal backed by the Trump administration to end the war. The proposed plan included several provisions that Zelenskyy has rejected in the past, such as a requirement that Ukraine give up its entire Donetsk region (including parts not occupied by Russia) and ending the country’s attempt to join NATO.

There is also a attached document related to security guarantees, according to US and Ukrainian officials. Olga Stefanishyna, Ukraine’s ambassador to the United States, told “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan” on Sunday the document specifies that the United States intends to offer “security guarantees” that it says are in line with Article 5 of the NATO treaty, which commits members to come to the defense of a NATO state that is attacked.

On Saturday, a group of NATO members and other US allies issued a joint statement calling the proposed peace plan “a foundation that will require additional work.”

the white house he said in a statement Sunday night that American and Ukrainian officials had “drafted an updated and refined peace framework” following discussions in Geneva. blond described a session in Geneva as “very significant,” but added that “there’s still work to do, and that’s what our teams are going to be doing right now.”

Trump has pressured Zelenskyy to reach a deal Thanksgivingalthough Rubio described that deadline as flexible on Sunday.

An American official told News themezone that Russian President Vladimir Putin appears to believe he will take Ukraine’s Donetsk region one way or another, whether through a negotiated settlement or on the battlefield. The Trump administration’s negotiations in Geneva began with the premise that Putin is right.

While that same U.S. official declined to provide a U.S. assessment on whether Ukraine is losing the war in the East, the U.S. official said the trajectory of fighting points to Russia taking Donetsk. The official indicated that Russian progress on the eastern border city of Pokrovsk, which is a logistics hub for Ukraine, was not a positive sign for kyiv’s defensive prospects. Russian media often refer to Pokrovsk as the “gateway” to Ukraine’s Donbas industrial region.
