A representative for Usha Vance said Saturday that she didn’t wear a wedding ring on an outing last week because she simply forgot it.

The second lady caused a stir Wednesday when she visited U.S. Marines in North Carolina with first lady Melania Trump after photos circulated of her without a ring on her left hand.

But a spokesman for the second lady gave a less journalistic explanation.

The representative told People on Saturday that Vance is “a mother of three young children, who washes a lot of dishes, bathes a lot and sometimes forgets her ring.”

That didn’t sit well with some observers, but that’s their answer.

Rumors of the second couple’s union surfaced when the vice president recently embraced Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika, in a way that some observers considered too intimate.

Vance also came under fire when he said he hoped his wife, who is Hindu, would one day convert to Catholicism.

“Do I hope that eventually she will be moved by the same thing that I was moved by the church?” asked. “Yes, I honestly wish that, because I believe in the Christian gospel, and I hope that eventually my wife will come to see it the same way. But if she doesn’t, then God says everyone has free will, and that doesn’t cause me any problem.” “

The Vances met at Yale Law School, married in 2014, and have three children, ages 3 to 8.
