Jim Gaffigan is calling a personal foul on how the majority perceives a controversy that rocked the National Football League.

Gaffigan’s defense of the 73-year-old North Carolina Tar Heels coach, who is dating a 24-year-old woman, began after Kimmel criticized the comedian for misusing an idiom.

“What is this NPR?” Gaffigan broke down after Kimmel corrected him. “In case you don’t know, I’m a dumb guy.”

After admitting this, Gaffigan seemed to have a sudden epiphany: Turning to ask Kimmel, “Do you admit that you are a foolish man?”

“Um, I don’t know. I don’t consider myself stupid,” Kimmel responded. “I do stupid things.”

“This will be cut in the edit,” Gaffigan said before launching into his rant.

“Let me speak hypothetically. That’s how dumb men are… I’m going to think of a hypothetical man,” he began.

To make her point, Gaffigan highlighted that her “hypothetical man” needed to have stereotypical traits indicative of his gender, such as working in a “male-dominated occupation.”

“Let’s say a football coach. Okay? Uh, let’s say an NFL coach.” Gaffigan decided. “Let’s say this football coach has won five Super Bowls.”
