Donald Trump Jr. sparked backlash over the weekend after sharing an AI-generated parody of a children’s book cover that took aim at Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) with an ableist slur.

On Sunday, the Trump scion posted the cover of a fake book on Instagram titled “Franklin Drives by Tim Walz’s House and Calls Him Retard.”

The image showed the beloved children’s character Franklin the Turtle passing by the 2024 Democratic vice presidential candidate, Walz, who appears handcuffed and with a couple.

Critics on social media slammed the stunt as “disgusting,” “abhorrent,” suggested Trump Jr. is “the son of a narcissist following in daddy’s footsteps,” and more.

The post appeared to combine controversies over Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth sharing a similar Franklin-themed meme (amid outrage over the Trump administration’s boat strike scandal) and President Donald Trump’s attacks on Walz as “seriously retarded,” which Walz said has inspired Trump fans to drive by his house shouting the insult out their car windows.
