JD Vance breaks silence by meeting with Francis hours before Pope
JD Vance paid tribute to Pope Francis on Monday, hours after it was learned that the Pope had died at age 88.
The vice president of the United States was one of the last people to meet with Francis before his death, and said he was “obviously very sick” during his meeting.
“I just learned about Pope Francis,” Vance said in a statement shared in X, previously Twitter. “My heart is with the millions of Christians around the world who loved him.”
“I was happy to see him yesterday, although he was obviously very sick,” added the 40 -year -old politician. “But I will always remember him for the next homily he gave in the first days of Covid. It was really pretty beautiful. May God rest his soul.” He also shared a link to the homily.

Vance briefly met with Francis on Easter Sunday. The Pope, who does not openly agreed with the policies of President Donald Trump on immigration, gave Vance three chocolate Easter eggs for his three children during the brief sitting.
“I know you haven’t felt great, but it’s good to see you in better health,” Vance told the Pope on Sunday. “Thanks for seeing me.”

Before leaving, Vance told the Pope: “I pray for you every day.”
Francis died on Monday after a five -week hospitalization in February and March, where he was treated for bronchitis, which finally progressed to pneumonia in both lungs. He was discharged from the hospital on March 23.
