LSU basketball team drives crowd wild after reaching 67-point mark

Some social media trends go more viral than others, and the latest one, known simply as “67,” is one of them.

The nonsensical phrase has exploded on TikTok and Instagram, and is especially popular among high school students, but now it seems the LSU women’s basketball team has taken a liking to it, too.

During Tuesday’s blowout win over Morgan State, sophomore guard Jada Richard scored from close range to give the Tigers a 67-20 lead in the final minutes of the third quarter.

And right on cue, the arena erupted with chants of “67” and hand gestures to match. Players, fans and even LSU head coach Kim Mulkey joined in the madness.

“67,” pronounced “six-seven,” was named word of the year for 2025 by Dictionary.com and originated in a song called “Doot Doot (6 7)” by Skrilla, but later became popular in basketball references. The phrase doesn’t really have a defined meaning, but it is commonly used among high school students.

And almost 9,000 schoolchildren attended Tuesday’s game. It marked LSU’s annual field trip game that featured students from the greater Baton Rouge area. The crucial 67th point was clearly a highlight of the game for the 8,743 students present.

“They loved it,” Mulkey said after the game, via team website. “I thought, ‘God bless the teachers.’ That’s my first thought. My second thought is that there’s a girl in that position who wants to wear that uniform one day, who wants to be at LSU as a student one day, maybe not even play sports. That’s what I told the team. There are girls out there who used to be you and some of them, this may be the first and last time they see you play. Leave an impression.”

The 91-33 rout marked LSU’s 12th victory of the season. The Tigers return on Sunday, when the undefeated team will face UT-Arlington (5-5) at home.
