It wasn’t as easy as he would have liked for Joshua. He landed 62% of his power punches, but the expectation was that he wouldn’t take the fight beyond the round.

“It wasn’t the best performance,” Joshua admitted, adding that Paul held his own in the fight.

Paul bounced around the ring and tried to land his punches wherever he could. He landed some quick punches on Joshua and probably won the first round. However, Paul’s strategy began to frustrate the referee and the crowd.

The Cleveland native would hit Joshua and try to wrap him up. He hit the mat several times, drawing boos from the crowd at Miami’s Kaseya Center. Even the referee had to intervene.

“The fans didn’t pay to see this garbage,” the referee said midway through the fourth round.

They sure didn’t do it.

But the two brought it to each other after the referee’s warning, but Paul’s stamina began to decline. It allowed Joshua to step up and land the shots needed to take him down.

Paul came into the fight with only one blemish on his record: a loss to Tommy Fury. He was coming off victories against Julio César Chávez Jr. and Mike Tyson; This last fight was one of the biggest spectacles the sport had seen in years.

He told Netflix’s Ariel Helwani that he thought his jaw was broken. He said he would take some time off after the fight and come back stronger.

Joshua had not fought since last September. He was knocked out by Daniel Dubois in a fight for the IBF heavyweight title. Before that, he was on a four-fight winning streak with victories over Francis Ngannou, Otto Wallin, Robert Helenius and Jermaine Franklin.
