White House investigates what mysterious livestream appeared on its website
WASHINGTON (AP) — A YouTube content creator’s livestream talking about investing appeared to mysteriously take over a White House website, raising questions about whether the site was hacked.
The live stream appeared for at least eight minutes Thursday night on whitehouse.gov/live, where the White House typically broadcasts live video of the president speaking.
It’s unclear if the website was breached or if someone in the government accidentally linked to the video. The White House said in a statement that it was “aware and investigating what happened.”
The video that appeared on the government-run website featured a more than two-hour livestream of Matt Farley, who posts as @RealMattMoney, as he answered financial questions.
Farley told The News on Friday that he had no idea what happened and only found out after the fact.

He said he had not been contacted by the government and had no theories about how his live stream on the website ended. He joked that he hoped President Donald Trump and his youngest son, Barron Trump, “are watching my broadcasts and taking advice.”
“If I had known it would be on the White House website, I probably would have had other things to talk about besides personal finances,” Farley said.
When asked what else he would discuss, Farley responded with a laugh and said, “What would you talk to the world about for eight minutes if you had the chance? I’m just a guy who makes YouTube videos about stocks.”
The Trump administration and campaign have had a series of digital security breaches and challenges over the past year.
In May, government officials began investigating after elected officials, business executives and other prominent figures received text messages and phone calls from someone posing as Susie Wiles, the Republican president’s chief of staff.
Last year, Iran broke into Trump’s campaign. Sensitive internal documents were stolen and distributed, including a dossier on Vice President JD Vance, created before he was chosen as Trump’s running mate.
