How common are the escapes of the prison?
A 22 -year -old thief named for the late John F. Kennedy has caused a uproar in Peru by escaping from prison, shouting thanks to God as he ran to freedom, according to the video that has become viral.
John Kennedy Javier Sebastian had been one of the 10,000 inmates in the prison of Lurigancho de Lima, the most full of Peru, and built to have 2,500.
On Monday night, he escaped from his cell, “he overlooked the security controls by raising the perimeter fence, accessing the area called no land” and then climbed on the outer wall, both covered with razor wire and safety peaks, according to the INPE Prison Service.
Sebastian had been serving a 10 -year sentence for theft since mid -2013.
“Hallelujah, Christ lives!” You can listen to the fugitive screaming euphorically when it reaches the main road and follows, according to the video captured by the neighbors.
You can hear shots and dogs in the background, but Sebastian manages to escape unharmed.
The chief of the prison was fired after his escape, the INPE said, and security was reinforced. The authorities launched a human hunt.
The last escape from the prison took place in 2017.

Peru is experiencing a wave of crimes and last month the government declared its third state of emergency in less than a year, according to the Atlantic Council. In December 2024, the United States issued a security alert for Peru, and in 2022 the United States Department of State said that the United States “has described Peru at a critically high risk level for crime” for more than 15 years.
