Dick Van Dyke responds to the critics of his 46 -year -old age gap with his wife
Dick Van Dyke thinks age is just a number.
The actor, who is just a few months after his 100th birthday, opened his marriage to his wife, the makeup artist Arlene Silver, works, despite his expansive age gap.
“We get along very well,” said Van Dyke, 99, in a new interview with People Magazine published on Monday. Silver, 53, added that the two “only care about each other.”
“Everyone said it would not work,” the actor shared.
“I mean it’s like mysterious how good it works,” said Silver. “People of the same age do not last.”
Van Dyke and Silver met for the first time at the 2006 SAG Awards. The actor of “Mary Poppins” said he was so hit by the presence of Silver that he decided to make the first movement.

“I never approached a strange woman in my life,” said Van Dyke in an interview with “Entertainment Tonight” last year. “And she passed and I jumped and I said: ‘Hello, I’m Dick’. I had no idea that she was half my age.
The age gap of almost five decades of the two did not care about the Emmy winner, who joked that “he was lucky that he did not grow!”
Their relationship also came so naturally that Silver and Van Dyke said that the people closest to them were happy when they officially met.
